Amour Tue

„Sultan Çoban“ becomes more famous, especially after her last concert „Second Solo Show“. „Amour Tue“ titled album will be released in WynxClub3000 on the 7th of October 2022. The window of a shop is covered in her poster and poem. One side of the lightbox shows her a poster the other side is a quote from her song „Hata“. The songs and posters are shown everywhere around the country. On the date of release, she signs the cassettes to her fans who attend the release. The gallery WynxClub3000 is a white cube in the heart of the red light district and nightlife scene of the city. I decided to turn the white cube into a space that resembles an unfinished place with concrete-designed plastic contact paper on the walls and the floor. I use curtains to cover the door, so there is no entrance is seen. I put another curtain in the front right behind the window where a poster is hung in front to re-create a living room, which also could be a cassette shop or a hairdresser. The space tries to get in dialog with the „Langstrasse“ district. The aesthetic and approach of the work don’t try to create a contrast in the area but rather blend in. I borrow the voice of „Ebru Gündeş“ again, and the voice of four other singers. This time I re-create one of her video clips „Hata“. The clip is produced by a professional crew in a studio. „Sultan Çoban“ and I get more immersed in each other. The question of whether I am real or not gets even more mixed. As I walk by the lake of Zurich with my headphones in my ear, my friend Linus Stiefel films me lip-syncing the playlist of the songs I am listening to. This uncut, uninterrupted 25-minute sequence is shown right after the video clip that is shot in a studio, where it is almost clear that the person is a singer. The second video clip which is dated with the text „4. October 2022“ blurs the fact of present/past, fiction/reality. The videos are shown on an old TV in front of the shop, and the sound of the songs is transmitted outside by invisible exciter speakers, which are attached to the window. In the smaller old TV in the background 19:00 news from March 2001, Turkey is shown without sound. The news content racist undertone toward Kurdish people. The fan which is running and turning from right to left creates a movement in the space, where it’s visible by the movement of the curtains. This fan also indicates another weather, climate, and space. The halfway throughput down in deep red colored shutter confuses if the shop is open and running.
